Mercury, the Winged Messenger Video
Set to the music of "Mercury" from Gustav Holst's "The Planets". We zoom into the 5th power Mandelbrot fractal, with a colour scheme inspired by the planet Mercury. It's something a little different...
I got the inspiration to do this from previous zooms where I have tried to match the time signature to the fractal's power. Very little music is written in 5:4. However, Holst's "Mars" is in 5:4. This fractal is particularly appropriate, as you will notice that the 4-bulb mini-Mandelbrots are surrounded by 5-sided shapes. The 5-way symmetry in parts of the fractal is quite interesting. This zoom is coloured quite differently. I went for a theme that I thought reflected the reds and oranges of Mercury's iron rich rocks, mixed with some yellows of the nearby sun. The colours are often closely related to create a 'terrain' type of feel.
